Inspiration is everywhere, from silly antics of children to visions of a newborn elk. Horses, for me, have been a huge source of inspiration. Not only are horses stunning, expressive animals, they have also carried me across the desert and over mountains to see incredible views of wildlife and nature. For as long as I can remember, if I was not riding a horse, I was somewhere drawing one. I love and paint all animals, however, horses are a recurring theme in my art. Through my paintings, I hope to share the rich emotions and beautiful scenes that have been shared with me through my life with horses.
I hope you will be inspired! Yvonne M Hazelton |
Yvonne Hazelton is a realist artist, born in the beautiful Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona, where she has lived her entire life. Aside from being a therapeutic riding instructor and directing HorsesNSmiles Therapeutic Ranch, she has spent most of her life training horses and painting. While earning a bachelor of fine arts in Education at the U of A, she was hired to do a racehorse commission. That first commission was the start of a long list of clients. Throughout the years, commissioned paintings have included wildlife, international show jumpers, race horses, Westminster dog show winners, backyard ponies, and even a family parakeet. Yvonne has also had the privilege of painting many award collections for specialty dog shows throughout the country.
With summer temperatures well over 100 in Tucson, the family packs up the horses and migrates to the higher elevations of northern Arizona to enjoy the cooler temperatures and breathtaking scenery. Living in Arizona provides the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful wildlife of both the Sonoran desert and the alpine forests.
Horses provide Yvonne with a world of inspiration. From their backs, she has observed newborn elk, bighorn sheep, bears and herds of wild horses, Often, inspiration comes from watching children interact with the horses and animals on the ranch. Yvonne captures these wonderful moments and emotions in her paintings. Usually done in oil, her paintings are detailed and realistic, varying in style from contemporary to western. A few years ago, she started Art For Horses.com, using the sales of artwork to care for rescued horses and to support the therapeutic ranch. As an artist, Yvonne hopes to create a painting that places the viewer in the moment, a witness to the scene, as well as give back to the horses that have given her so much inspiration.
